COVID-19 closure and cancellations
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Apprenticeship Program temporarily suspended all training activities effective March 17, 2020 through May 11, 2020.
Because of a reduction in class sizes held at the Training Site, some Apprentices may have their training rescheduled to a later date. If future classes are cancelled or rescheduled the Apprenticeship Office will contact you.
The following classes were cancelled:
•Backhoe/Loader/Dozer class – March 30 – April 3, 2020
•Crane Class – March 30 – April 3, 2020
•Forklift Class – April 1, 2020 at IA’s shop in Franklin, PA
•Mechanic Apprentice hands-on training – March 30 – April 3, 2020
•Horizontal Directional Drill – April 6- 17
•Welding class – April 6 – 10
•Apprentice Field Training – April 6 – 10
•Apprentice Field Training – April 13 – 17
•Apprentice Field Training – April 27 – May 1
*NEW CANCELLATION Apprentice Field Training – May 4 – May 8
•Crane Certification Test (CCO) – April 26
•Crane Safety Classes – April 11, 18, 25
Classes will be rescheduled if possible.
The DOT Physicals scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2020 and April 4, 2020 and new apprentice Orientation scheduled to start on April 13, 2020 and June 15, 2020 have been postponed until further notice. We will contact the newly selected apprentices once the physicals and Orientation classes have been rescheduled.
the 6-Meeting Requirement for Apprentices is now waived until June 1, 2021. Attendance at District meetings and General Membership meetings will be optional until that time. After June 1, 2021 Apprentices will be required to attend the General Membership meetings, unless properly excused, and to attend enough District meetings to reach the combined total of 6 meetings by June 1, 2022. Future adjustments to the requirement will be made as necessary.
A wide range of new procedures have been adopted at the Training Site including reduced class sizes, temperature checks, requirement for masks to be worn, social distancing, staggered lunch times, COVID-19 training, and regular cleaning by the staff. Plexi-glass has also been installed in certain areas as barriers. A 3rd party cleaning service has also been hired to provide a thorough weekly cleaning and sanitizing.
